New to me…

Moving under Y!OS

After working in one of the internal teams at Yahoo! for one and half years, I am moving on to a different team (Universal Profiles). While I am excited about the new opportunity, I will miss my current team members. That was a great experience working in a very small team at big organization like Yahoo!

Universal Profiles is a part of Y!OS (Yahoo! Open Strategy). Y!OS will allow third-party developers to access Yahoo! assets and build applications around them. Developers can distribute these applications on different Y! websites or on their own website. Profiles team will transition Yahoo! 360 and Mash to more advanced Yahoo! “Profile” experience. Another cool thing for me is — as a part of this move I am getting my HP laptop replaced with MacBook Pro…yeyy

To learn more about Yahoo! Open Strategy watch following video from Web 2.0 Expo where Neal Sample, chief architect at Y! explains Y!OS.

First Time in Big Apple!

Last week I was in New York for our team offsite meeting. I was there for four days. That was such a great experience to see an amazing city for the first time. New York is so much different than other big cities in USA. It’s a very fast life. It’s good to visit and see all the attractions, but I would never move there. Manasi also joined me on Friday and we spent the weekend there. We were happy to see big Yahoo! sign at Times Square. We took Grey Line city tour for two days, that was fun too.

Trip to Monterey

Since we recently moved to Bay Area from Austin TX, we have decided to visit nearby places every weekend. Yesterday we drove to Monterey. It is small town around 80 miles south from Sunnyvale. Monterey is very beautiful and perfect destination for a weekend trip. Most popular attraction there is Monterey Bay Aquarium. We spent some time on Fisherman’s Wharf, and on the beach. We also visited the restaurant called Sandbar and Grill.

Ganeshotsav – Austin Marathi Mandal Program

Yesterday we went for annual celebration of Ganeshotsav. Austin Marathi Mandal organized this function. There was Ganesh Puja, some entertainment programs and authentic Maharashtrian dinner. We met lot of new families of our age group. It is very nice to attend Maharashtrian functions and make new friends. We moved to Austin recently from Corpus Christi. There is a big Indian community here in Austin as compared with Corpus Christi.

Weekend Timepass – Hindi Movie “Corporate”

Today we watched Madhur Bhandarkar’s Hindi movie “Corporate”. I really liked this movie, now I am becoming Madhur Bhandarkar’s fan. He unveils the secrets of (indian) corporate world in this movie. Some of my other favorites are Page 3, Chandni Bar that are also directed by him.

Write in your native language…

Today we installed WordPress on Manasi’s website and she found pretty cool template too. She has found this free Indian language software called “Baraha“. Once you install this utility on your computer, you can easily type in Indian languages like Marathi, Gujarathi, Bengali etc. I tried typing in Marathi (my native language) and it works very well. whenever I saw Marathi blogs, I have always wondered about easiest way to write Marathi online, but now I know atleast one way to publish Marathi content.

First Time Bowling Experience

Today we took off early from work for our ThunderTix meeting at Gingerman. While wrapping up our meeting we made a plan to go bowling at Westgate Lanes. That was our first time bowling experience. Manasi and me really enjoyed it. We played two rounds and our scores were 72,69 (Manasi) and 99,147 (Manish). Now we decided to start TDS bowling team and we are going to play once every week.

National Bridge Caverns

Last weekend we visited National Bridge Caverns near New Braunfels. If you are looking for something to do on a weekend and if you live around the area of Austin or San Antonio, thats a great spot to visit. That was 75 minutes tour which travels through caverns and rock formations located 186 ft. below ground level. We really loved it.  Here are our pictures.
